Campaign to Stop Genocide in Darfur

Africa Action is engaged in advocacy and activism to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, where the Sudanese government has been waging a campaign of destruction against targeted African communities since 2003. More than 450,000 people have lost their lives and millions have been displaced, their livelihoods and villages destroyed by government forces and their proxy militias. Although the U.S. government has acknowledged this genocide, it has failed to take the necessary action to protect the people of Darfur. Africa Action is calling on President Bush to assert U.S. leadership in support of a multinational intervention to stop the ongoing genocide in Darfur. more >

Genocide in Darfur

Since 2003, the government of Sudan has been waging a campaign of genocide against targeted African communities in Darfur.
More than 450,000 people have died as a result of the genocide in Darfur.
The growing violence has created a conflict-affected population of more than 4.5 million, according to estimates from the UN.
Some 80,000 people were displaced due to violence in the first two months of 2007.
Unless there is an urgent multinational intervention to protect the people of Darfur, the death toll will continue to rise dramatically in 2007.

*These figures are compiled from the reports of Eric Reeves (www.sudanreeves.org) and the Coalition for International Justice (www.cij.org), as of the end of 2005.
