Leader on Debt Cancellation & Economic Justice Issues joins Africa Action Staff

October 19, 2004 - Africa Action is pleased to announce the arrival on staff of Marie Clarke Brill as the new Director for Public Education & Mobilization. Marie joins Africa Action following a three-year term as National Coordinator of Jubilee USA Network, the U.S. arm of the international Jubilee movement calling for complete debt cancellation for impoverished countries.

In her new position at Africa Action, Marie will direct Africa Action’s new public education and mobilization activities, as well as outreach to key constituencies. She will lead the development of Africa Action campaigns, including the ongoing Africa’s Right to Health Campaign. Marie’s main mission will be to increase public participation in the policy-making process around key African issues.

Marie has extensive experience in economic justice work and in international development issues in many parts of the Global South. She became involved with economic justice work on Africa during her time at Jubilee USA Network and in building relationships with scores of debt and development organizations throughout Africa. Marie was previously a director of Quest for Peace at the Quixote Center where she directed grassroots development work in Nicaragua and domestic and international advocacy work on economic justice. She has lived in developing countries for 12 years.
